National Day for Truth and Reconciliation September 30

Both the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation and Orange Shirt Day take place on September 30. Our staff and students learn about indigenous ways of knowing and doing as part of our growth as learners throughout the year and beyond. Students and staff of École Red Bluff Lhtako (ÉRBL) are participating in a number of activities the week leading up to The National Day for Truth and Reconciliation including a traditional drum session on Friday September 29, 2023.

Lhtako Dene Nation will be hosting events at Lhtako Dene Park on the waterfront trail system; all are welcome to attend.

No School October 2, 2023

  • Monday October 2 will serve as the statutory holiday in BC to observe The National Day for Truth and Reconciliation

Orange Shirt Day is an Indigenous-led grassroots commemorative day intended to raise awareness of the individual, family and community inter-generational impacts of residential schools, and to promote the concept of “Every Child Matters”.  The orange shirt is a symbol of the stripping away of culture, freedom and self-esteem experienced by Indigenous children over generations.

On September 29 we encourage all students and staff to wear orange to honour the thousands of Survivors of residential schools.
