Healing Journey
Every year I teach students about the history of Residential Schools. I change it up each year, and this year I am doing classroom presentations about what my family did when they were done attending Residential School. What did they do to cope with the trauma and help heal their hearts from attending this very difficult school? My family, once home, started keeping very active with all of their cultural activities and speaking their language. They were kept from practicing this for many years and this is something they needed back in their lives. There are many survivors that are still healing, and there are some that may never recover. My mother Doris and her three brothers. Adam, Norman and Otis all recently received their survivor quilts. These quilts will help comfort them with a warm hug.
