Memorial Walk

May 30, 2024

On May 23, 2024 the students and staff of ÉRBL gathered to observe the anniversary of the discovery of 215 unmarked graves at the Kamloops Indian Residential School site. In May 2021, the Tk’emlúps te Secwépemc Nation announced the discovery of 215 unmarked graves at the site of the former Kamloops Indian Residential School. Ms. Geraldine William led our students through songs joined by drummers Mr. Clayton Gauthier and Ms. Sheila Gilpin. Ms. William and Mr. Gauthier were then joined by students who led the school on a memorial walk throughout the school grounds.

Observing a day of remembrance honours the survivors and acknowledges the suffering endured. It serves as a collective commitment to understanding this dark chapter in Canadian history, fostering healing, and ensuring such atrocities are never repeated. This day underscores the importance of reconciliation and the role that school plays.
