Water Ceremony - Kishkan/Colegate

May 31, 2024

Water Ceremony

"I invited my auntie Alice William to come and do a Water Ceremony for two of our classrooms. She is a protector of water. First nations people do water ceremonies at any time for different protection purposes, blessings and healing. Water is important to us humans, animals, plants and to Mother Earth. Water is life and we must do our best to protect it. The children brought an organic offering to the river as a gift while they poured their water into the river, and when they did that, they thanked the water, by saying some of these things, you give us life, you help the animals, you help our plants grow, these are some example of what the children were thankful for. The organic gifts the children brought for the river, were leaves, rocks and sticks, all natural things from our earth. This is culture and culture is inclusion."
